Consultant Cardiologist, Portiuncla Hospital, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway and Galway University Hospital
Dr. Flynn is Consultant Cardiologist in Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, and Galway University Hospital. He has recently returned from the US, where he had worked for three years as Consultant General Cardiologist in Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. Prior to that, he had trained in non-invasive cardiovascular imaging in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.
His primary interest is diagnostic cardiology – identifying patients with significant coronary artery disease, and managing them according to best medical practice. He also is interested in heart failure and valvular heart disease – he is very involved in the latest percutaneous techniques to treat both aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation; namely TAVI and MitraClip. While these are his specific areas of interest, much of his practice involves preventive cardiology, such as the treatment of risk factors for heart disease, including hypertension, dyslipidaemia and behavioural influences.
